Correct Tire Pressure - Green Living Tip Brought to you by Ideal Bite
Press(ure) Play
The Bite:
Wanna Stop gas waste? Pause next time you're at the gas station, and pump up more than just your tank. Make sure your tires are properly inflated (especially important in the winter, since cold and altitude affect pressure) to increase your gas mileage, save you money, and Eject certain safety concerns.
The Benefits:
- You'll improve your MPG by about 3%, using as much as 7 cents less per gallon of gas.
- Your car handles better when tires are at the recommended pressure (and is thus safer). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says underinflated tires contribute to 660 deaths each year.
- Cars emit 3.3% less CO2 when your tires are at the correct pressure versus underinflated.
- Don't Fast Forward your tires' lives - correct pressure extends the life of your tires by as much as 15%.
- Being in the know really helps in the winter - pressure's lowered by the cold and the altitude (ski-trippers take note).
