Sustainable Beaded Bracelets Made by Women in Uganda
The Bite
Feel free to copy us if you're looking for a fun gift with a kid-stuff price. Boulder's Bead for Life store's got all kinds of playful, vibrantly colored bead bracelets, necklaces, and earrings (they do one thing, and do it right). We bought a deep purple, stretchy bracelet in October and haven't taken it off yet (compliments galore). These beaded babies are made from recycled paper (tho' they look like shiny stones) by women in Uganda, who use the proceeds to buy homes and access health care. Going this route instead of gold or gemstones averts mine waste, which pollutes more than any other industry in the United States. Gift chase over.
Small Changes Add Up
If 10,000 Denver Biters opt for jewelry made from recycled paper instead of gold, we'll avoid enough mine waste to fill 20,000 garbage trucks.
