LEED Green Power can be doubled for an extra ID Credit

Wind PowerDid you know that under the LEED Green Power Credit EAc6, you can achieve an additional Innovation in Design (ID) Point for exemplary performance by doubling your efforts to offset your electricity use with renewable energy credits (RECs)?

The USGBC’s LEED NC-2.2 Errata Sheet namely states that “Exemplary performance can be achieved by doubling the requirements, either by the amount of electricity or the length of contract.”

Matt KiszkaPERSONALLY SPEAKING

Purchasing RECs is a great way to take responsibility for your building’s energy use and makes a real difference in the development of renewable sources of energy. In 2008, over 50% of wind power was purchased by the voluntary market in fact, and of all the new energy brought on line in that year, 42% of it was wind power. The Green Power Credit is therefore an important contribution to the voluntary market, and the USGBC is willing to back that up by stating that doubling your efforts qualified as exemplary performance in LEED. ~ Matt
