TastKake Bakery's LEED-registered HQ is offset with green power

LEED-registered TastyKake Bakery HQThe new TastyKake Corporate Headquarters – which is relocating to Philadelphia’s Historic Navy Yard – is pursuing LEED Core & Shell certification at the Gold level. The building, located at 3 Crescent Drive, is employing such innovative design features and technologies as:

•    90% daylighting of interior space
•    High solar reflectant white roof
•    Low-E window glazing to reduce heat loss
•    Energy efficient HVAC
•    Enhanced building commissioning
•    Proximity to public transportation
•    Site selected to reduce environmental impact

Off-site renewable energy in the form of renewable energy credits (RECs) was also purchased to offset the environmental impact of the electricity used by the building’s core and shell over two years.

Architectural design by Erdy McHenry Architecture, and construction by IMC Construction.

Matt KiszkaPERSONALLY SPEAKING

This is a great move by TastyKake Bakery – hopefully more and more corporations will consider such environmental commitments when deciding to relocate. Not only are they doing a service to the environment, but they are also reducing their energy bills and setting themselves up against potential increases in energy costs. We salute them! And their tasty kakes! ~ Matt
