Billionaire Boone Pickens discusses how renewables can reduce our foreign oil dependence.
The U.S. currently imports 38 percent of our oil from the Middle East and Africa. Global consumption of oil has reached the 85 million barrels per day mark with the U.S. guzzling through 25% (21 million barrels daily). The U.S. makes up only 4% of the world's population so as you can see, we are consuming significantly more than our statistical share. Enter billionaire Boone Pickens. The Oklahoma native aims to put some of his own money to good use by spreading the renewable energy word and last week asked a standing-room-only crowd at the Cox Conventions Center "Who do you blame that we're importing 70 percent of our oil?" His answer, "It's all of us." He went on to explain that the U.S. could reduce its energy dependences on foreign oil by 38% if we could increase our supply and use of American-based resources like wind power. Sounds like a plan. Renewable Choice offers home wind power plans starting as low as $5 per month, giving you an easy and affordable opportunity to, as Boone says "be patriotic" (read more here). Looks like some of the solutions to the climate change crisis extend beyond environmental issues and into foreign policy, homeland security, and economic well being; something for patriots and tree-huggers alike to embrace.
