The U.S. is now the word's leader in wind electricity generation.
The U.S. wind industry has reached 20,000 MW installed capacity, achieving in two years what had previously taken more than two decades, the AWEA reports. This milestone has propelled the U.S. ahead of Germany as the world’s leader in wind electricity generation. While Germany still takes the lead on installed capacity, stronger winds in the U.S. allow us to produce more wind generated electricity. Reaching the 20,000 MW landmark is an important one, but with wind power providing just over 1.5% of the nation’s electricity, we are far from reaching our potential. Read more about this milestone and our goal of 20% wind energy by 2030.
