La Grande Dame Launches eBoutique, Offers Offsets (Excerpt)
La Grande Dame, an online retail company specializing in high-end fashion for plus sizes, announces its e-boutique, which opened March 24, 2009. The March opening comes after years of securing relationships around the world to offer the finest clothing and accessories to customers.
Customers of La Grande Dame will be given the opportunity to round their order to the next dollar and have the difference used to purchase verified emission reductions (VERs), also known as carbon offsets, from Renewable Choice Energy of Boulder, Colorado. The “Round Up” program will help address the environmental impact associated with shipping their order and is part of La Grande Dame’s corporate sustainability initiatives that also include minimal package for shipments, a hybrid company car, energy smart light bulbs and a commitment to consumer education. La Grande Dame chose to partner Renewable Choice Energy to offer this program because of its proven history as a renewable energy and clean tech industry leader.
Renewable Choice’s Round Up, Impact Down program provides a simple and effective solution to support carbon reduction projects. For example, the shipment of an average 4 pound package traveling from California to Florida emits approximately 1 pound of carbon dioxide (CO2). La Grande Dame’s customer ordering this package could “Round Up” their order total to the nearest dollar to reduce the carbon emissions associated with the shipment. One hundred percent of the extra charge is used to purchase verified emission reductions (VERs) that support domestic methane capture projects.
