PHP Software Developer

Renewable Choice Energy, a nationally-recognized industry leader in clean tech products and services seeks a full-time PHP Software Developer for a 3+ month contract position with the potential for ongoing engagement.  The position will work with the business development team to create a software-as-a-service (SAAS) web application for calculating green house gas emission inventories.  The Developer will have involvement with all aspects of the development lifecycle including gathering, feature implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance/support. 

The ideal candidate will be a strong problem solver with the ability to work well independently and with a team.  A working knowledge of object oriented programming concepts and a desire to learn new technologies and skills is a must.  Applicants will have excellent communication skills and be able to respond to demands within a rapidly changing and progressive environment.  Interest in or personal commitment to environmental sustainability is highly desirable.

Qualified applicants will have the following technical experience:

  • Modest to intermediate experience in web development, particularly with open source tools (LAMP/WAMP solutions stack).
  • 2+ years developing in PHP
  • 2+ years MySQL experience related to PHP software development
  • 3+ years with XHTML, CSS, and Javascript
  • Implementation and development of 3rd party APIs and frameworks
  • Proficiency with basic Linux administration duties including experience configuring Apache and performing basic scripting tasks


In addition, the following is preferred:

  • Experience writing unit tests (JUnit, PHPUnit, SimpleUnit) and performing server/application stress testing.
  • Experience with AJAX and related Javascript frameworks such as jQuery, Dojo, or ExtJS.
  • Experience with web services (SOAP, REST, XML, and JSON).
  • Strong understanding of OOP concepts and design patterns including familiarity with ORM database access layers.
  • Experience using version control systems such as GIT, Subversion, or CVS.
  • An understanding of big O notation as it relates to efficiency, complexity, growth rates, and limits.
  • Knowledge or experience with agile development and the software development lifecycle.
  • Previous work on web applications and web oriented frameworks using MVC/PAC-based design patterns.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science.

This position will be a full-time contract position for a minimum of three months.  We are looking for someone local to the Denver/Metro area who can work in-house during normal business hours; however, we are open to a telecommuting arrangement for the right person.
