Shaughnessy Renews and Increases Environmental Commitment.
Missouri-based distribution company reduces its environmental impact with help from Renewable Choice Energy by offsetting 100 percent of its corporate electricity use and carbon emissions produced from its fleet of delivery trucks.
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) August 11, 2011
Shaughnessy Kniep Hawe, a distribution company that markets printing paper, supplies to the graphic arts industry and packaging materials, announced they have renewed and increased their commitment to reduce their carbon footprint through their partnership with Colorado-based Renewable Choice Energy. For over three years, Shaughnessy has reduced its carbon emissions by offsetting their electricity. Shaughnessy has committed again to offset 100 percent of the electricity use at its fifteen locations with the purchase of 1,861,155 kilowatt hours (kWh) of Green-e Energy certified renewable energy credits (RECs). Shaughnessy, aware that their fleet of 16 delivery trucks is a large contributor to its carbon footprint, has again committed to take responsibility for 100 percent of the emissions generated by their fleet through the purchase of carbon offsets.
With this purchase, Shaughnessy helps avoid a similar amount of CO2 emissions produced by nearly 181 passenger vehicles annually or the electricity use of 123 average American homes.
“We at Shaughnessy know that a commitment to the environment is more important than ever today. Our ongoing commitment to renewable energy and carbon mitigation projects is important to our associates, our suppliers and our customers. We appreciate the opportunity to continue our efforts through Renewable Choice Energy,” said Ed Kniep IV, President and CEO of Shaughnessy Kniep Hawe.
Renewable energy facilities generate RECs when electricity is produced. Purchasing these credits is one of the widely accepted ways to address the environmental footprint of electricity consumption. Purchasing RECs at the same quantity as an individual’s electricity consumption guarantees that the energy used is added to the power grid from a renewable energy facility and supports the further development of these facilities. Renewable Choice RECs are third-party certified by Green-e Energy.
Carbon offsets, also known as verified emission reductions (VERs), reduce the environmental impact of activities that use fuel such as driving, flying, heating and manufacturing with real, verified and permanent carbon reductions. A VER helps finance carbon reduction projects, such as landfill methane capture and destruction, and represents the reduction of carbon dioxide or its equivalent. Renewable Choice VERs are verified by American Carbon Registry or Verified Carbon Standard.
"Shaughnessy’s commitment to supporting clean energy development and carbon reduction projects demonstrates its dedication to conducting sustainable business practices,” said Quayle Hodek, CEO of Renewable Choice Energy. By extending its commitment year after year, Shaughnessy is also doing its part to create demand for clean technologies and help support the growth of the clean technology industry.”
Shaughnessy is also certified by the Industry’s most recognized environmental corporate compliance certifications: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC). These certifications are an integral component of Shaughnessy’s social and environmental initiatives.
